#CampNano begins…

So, today begins #CampNanoWriMo. I’ve got my candles lit, my cozy coffee shop youtube music in my headphones, my crystals all around me. I did a very nice tarot reading before this that made me feel  a lot better and prepared for this week. Bring it on.

I am always good at starting things, but not so good at finishing.

I heard a term a while back on a TED talk called “Multipotentialite”, which means a person who has many interests and creative pursuits in their life, not just one calling, several. I think that’s me to a T. I also found out that I’m a manifesting generator which I think plays into that as well. (Human design, find your chart here!) So, yeah, there’s always a lot going on for me. Then you add in my bipolar and how I get obsessed with certain projects, stop in the middle and forget, and then move on to something else completely.

This is why I have a hard time announcing any projects I’m working on for fear of being judged when I inevitably do not finish. I’ve written before on patreon about how I’m a big quitter and how I’ve finally released the shame around that.

Some things I’ve started and then quit in my life:

  • 2 marriages, lol.
  • Montessori teaching
  • Birth and postpartum doula work
  • Several life coaching certifications I never used, and a few that I’ve started and never finished. I purposefully haven’t taken clients, I think I need some confidence in this area.
  • School. Never finished college.
  • A memoir (got to 26,000 and never went back to it)
  • Many blogs. This is number 1,494 (ok, so I’m exaggerating)
  • A YouTube channel.
  • And the list goes on. I’d have to pull up my patreon post to remember the others.

Anyway, all of that to say, I hope to Gods I finish this #CampNanoWriMo, and I hope blogging *possibly* every day helps me have some accountability here.

Of course some posts will go to patreon, and some will be just for me.

In November when actual #NanoWriMo comes up I am hoping to work on my memoir once again. But I’m just gearing up for that. I want to get into the habit of having a joyful writing process, daily, or at least Monday-Friday.

So my #CampNanoWriMo goal is 15k words in the month of April. I am taking weekends off, so that is 750 words Monday-Friday. So doable. I don’t have a hard time writing many words once I am sitting down to do it, but I have a hard time getting my ass in the chair and sitting there, wanting to write.

It’s so confusing to me because I love writing and it’s a lifelong goal to be a published author, but I have so many issues around actually doing it. I know I need the practice, so here I am, and all I can do is my best. I will try to show up every day!

I have several books about blogging and writing and how to publish your books, I work with authors all day long for my day job, but then I just can’t make myself do it. Let’s hope that changes.

Something that helps me a lot is having these little rituals around my writing. Lighting my same candles each time, having my crystals around me, listening to my headphones, tracking my words. Another thing that used to help me a lot was doing writing sprints. I used to host them on my own youtube channel, but now that I’m not doing that anymore I’m sure I can find someone else’s sprints to join on YouTube. Writing with others is fun.

Something I’ve thought about doing but am scared sh*tless to try is joining a writing group.

I’ve been blogging for years and years and used to have someone edit my posts, that was so nerve wracking and I can’t possibly imagine having people read my stuff and then give me feedback in person *runs and hides*. I guess one day I will have to get over that, but that is not today, friends.

I’ve been writing for 20 minutes and already have 695 words, yay, almost to my goal.

Another struggle I have when it comes to blogging is thinking of things to write about. I have lists and lists of things, but when it comes time to do it, they don’t sound enticing. So if you have any suggestions for things you’d like to see me write about this #CampNanoWriMo, let me know! I’d love to hear from you!
